this past weekend, ryan and i went hiking in granite falls, wa. with our good friends olin and taylor. just northeast of seattle is the wondrous site of the big four ice caves. it was my first time to the ice caves and i was thrilled!
after meandering on a one mile, well maintained forest trail, you arrive at the base of big four mountain (as pictured above). this trail is great for many hiking abilities and is deemed a family friendly trail by the washington trails association.
we were super blessed with a beautiful day and woke up early to beat the crowds. it was well worth the drive, plus with this crazy spring weather we’ve been having in the pnw, there was no snow covering the path, and barely any covering the mountain peaks for that matter!
besides seeing the amazing site of the ice caves, there is tons of open space to play and discover at the end of the main trail, including many small waterfalls rolling down the mountainside. we stayed for three hours adventuring off the path and throughout the rocky meadow at the foot of the mountain.
i highly recommend the ice caves for an early spring hike. there are many other trails in the same area too, so if you’re feeling up for it, check them out afterwards! and, bring along some people you enjoy, we had such a blast. enjoy the beauty!
